Warriors hitting 17th spot of Weekly Power Ranking

It is the highest since the beginning of the season when they got 7 wins in 9 games (the highest was 15). Recently, despite the unproductive bench, the warriors have been playing really nice basketball......if you take out the two games against Suns......

They beat Utah, Chicago, Oklahoma City, and Denver. It sounds really impressive right? No. All those teams, except OKC, have some starters, and I'm talking about good starters here, DNP because of injuries.

Take a look of Utah. This is before Sloan resigned. Warriors are playing them who are without Okur and D-Will. They won, but they didn't win pretty. If D-Will is on the court, even just 30 mins, I don't think the Warriors can contain them.

If we are talking about Chicago, we can see all the actions from Derrick Rose. However, we cannot ignore the fact that Joakim Noah is not playing. He's the player who can get 20-10 all day. Along with some good defense and internal pressure. When he's missing, the inside of Chicago gets so much weaker with only Carlos Boozer, who's not exactly a center type.

The Denver game was weird. Without Chauncy Billups, the ball handler was Ty Lawson, who grew into a very nice backup PG who can score and pass. Although he's short, he has the ability to maneuver around players to get to where he wants to be. The last play was surprising. First Denver did not call a timeout, and second the ball did not get to Carmelo. What's weird is that it happened so fast that no one actually knew what happened until afterwards. It was a 2-pt game and it was over in an unexpected way. Whatever the reason for that no-timeout last play, the warriors won. Again, Billups wasn't there.

The most valuable win was against OKC. The Warriors were not shooting well. In fact, it was a horrible game, shooting-wise. However, for some odd reason the Warriors had like 40 more shots than the Thunders, who had around 60 shots. What's weird about this is that the Warriors are usually not a team who get many rebounds, despite the offensive rebound. Yet they got about 20 O-rebounds that day. It was really impressive, and I hope they can continue doing that in the future. David Lee, my new hero, was playing extremely well. Keith Smart should use him more. Even though his jump shots are a sharp weapon, his strong part is still his inside play. Get him involved more instead of simply asking him to get rebounds.

Well, after all, the Warriors are about 45% right now. I just hope they can get to .500 before season ends. Playoff? Memphis won 7 in a roll and they are still not in the top 8. The west is just too crazy.....

Warriors going to playoff?

I've been listening to the radio show on 680 AM during lunch break, and the host is a total asshole. That's not the reason for this post, though. From what he's talking about, I've noticed that even he is really biased despite the fact that he should have the most basketball knowledge. He's right that the Warriors do not have a chance going to playoff this year, but he doesn't really specify what they can do to make them better. More like, he doesn't have a valid point of what's probable. All he does was bash on people and call them stupid.

Again, that's still not the point for this post. The point is that Warriors DOES have a chance to go to playoff, even though it's about 1 % chance...... The team still has a lot of holes, and the offense/defense is not balanced. Here are some points that I jogged down.

The warriors have to work on their front court offence and, most importantly, defense (not just for the bench). The Warriors are allowing 106.5 points per game to their opponents. They are second the last, only in front of Minnesota. There's a lot to do with their defense. Andreas Biedrins fouls too much when playing defense, and he's like the only defense option. When he's foul trouble, which he is very often, the Warriors have to go small because there's no other good big guy. That's why Biedrins really needs to learn how to defend without fouling. He has to do it since the reserve is not that strong. Take a look of the reserve big men, Louis Amundson is the only one who can play 5. Dan Gadzuric can play but often he does not really know what to do. That yields to either easy layups for opponents or, even more embarrassing, a slam dunk. The rest of people are PF or even smaller. When they have to guard people like Dwight Howard or even, say, Tyson Chandler, they have no chance.

Warriors' reserve have to play better not just in the defense category. They also need to produce more on the other side. Right now, besides the starting five, Reggie Williams is the main firepower from the reserve. He can really play, whether it's shooting the ball or dribble penetration. The only problem is that he is too inconsistent. When he's hot, he can drain 30 points without any problem, but when he's not, getting 5 points can be hard. When the main firepower is like that, and the rest of bench does not produce, there's no way the Warriors can get into playoff, not mentioning the championship. Good teams have really deep bench and well balanced scoring. Take example of Boston Celtics, one of the most balanced team in the league, they have the big three, Rondo the distributor, big baby the sixth man, Nate Robinson the fast scorer, and the O'Neal's the big men. Every single one of them knows how to score, pass, and defend. This kind of deep roster gets them the championship. Another example is Lakers. They have Bryant, Gasol, Bynum as the main firepower. Others like Ron Artest who got defensive player of the year once, Derek Fisher who can clutch (and flop......), Odom who's the sixth man with an All-Star performance, Shannon Brown who can shoot 3's and dribble penetrate, and Matt Barnes who's a well-rounded player. This roster is deep, really deep. That's why when the starters don't have a good performance, they can still win games.

One of the reasons we are constantly in foul trouble is because, well, we foul too much. The centers are supposed to foul when they try to stop an easy layup or dunk. This has a lot to do with defense again, which I will talk about later. The problem here is that we are giving away silly free throws. Monta Ellis likes to do those light fouls like touching someone's hand when they are surging to the hoop. The ref's are trained to look at those plays, and the offensive side usually gets the call! It is like what Bob Fitzgerald said, you either foul hard or stay out of the way. Ther are so many times when Monta Ellis does those touch foul and the result is a three-point-play. The foul is so light that it cannot stop the motion of most of the players, especially those who are really good at balancing themselves when getting bumped. The commentators like to do those FTA difference and show how Warriors do not get to the free throw line. Well, the Warriors shoot a lot of jump shots instead of going in for post-up and getting fouled. This is the style they play, so not having too many FTA is not a problem (although the free throws are always good......charity stripe is called charity stripe for a reason......), but the FTA the opponents have shows how bad our defense is!

Defense, again. We see and hear this word so often when it comes to Warriors' games. Our defense is so bad that we have to foul to stop the plays. This is because we cannot get in front of the opponents fast enough. It shows slowness and flaws in design of defensive plays. Keith Smart so far does a good job on getting every starter to have some production on the offensive end, but defense-wise there is nothing. NOTHING! He once said he believes in DTW--Defense Travels Well. Well, I do not see that at all. If he truly believes in that we would not be allowing 106.5 pts per games. We really need to pick up the defense and try not to foul during the plays, one of the things Andrea Biedrins really needs to practice.

On the other side of the court, we are doing well, but not well enough. We are shooting the ball well, but I do think we still need someone inside for posts. Andrea Biedrins is not comfortable for those plays, for some reason. Sometimes his moves are just so stiff that everyone knows there's no way the shots are going in. He needs to have some moves like baby hook or pumps. Same goes to other front court players like Amundson, Ekpe Udoh, and Dan Gadzuric. When the front court can produce, the opponents' defense has to go towards the middle to stop the big men. This means the outside shooters have a better chance of getting open shots. It is kind of like Orlando's strategy, except Dwight Howard is dominating everyone, something none of the Warriors' big men can do. What's interesting is that Biedrins used to get double double every single game in 2009 season. However, after he came back from that injury, he just totally lost it. He really needs to have those back if he wants to help the Warriors. He's only 23, so he still has time.

With these, I really believe the Warriors are playoff contenders. They just need to keep working and make sure they don't slack off and have those horrible TO's. Good luck warriors, you can still rise and shine!

It was a great experience watching Warriors win

So I went to another Warriors' game. It's the second one since I got back from Taiwan. I gotta say, when you are in another city, you do not have the chance to enjoy this kind of privilege. Of course, a lot of people don't care, but it's really nice to have an arena 30 mins away from your house and is showing games most of the nights.

Tard and his DB friends decided to go and asked me if I want to join them to get the group deal which has the ticket and one free t-shirt. Of course I said yes since there's really nothing else to do in Fremont. I mean, come on, it's Fremont we are talking about here.

So Tard, Isa, and I went to the game, alone with Tard's little gf and DB ppl, and we weren't disappointed. Actually, I was pretty mad at first. The person who bought the tickets were late because of bad traffic. Reasonable, but not what you want to experience before the game. We didn't get in until the first quarter was almost over. I was actually thinking about only paying him 15 for losing a quarter of the value, but since he's a nice guy I decided not to be a d-bag.

The game was interesting, mainly because it's a close game but Warriors were always winning. And there were two guys sitting behind me talking about Darko Milicic, the former second overall draft pick who were sucking but suddenly got good recently.

Apparently Darko is on one of their fantasy team, and he's also on mine. He was in fact the leader scorer for Timberwolf, surprisingly. For the entire game, besides all the cheering and booing, those two and I were just talking about how Darko got so good and he's helping the fantasy stats in many categories. It was fun. Seriously! It is, and I'm not a dork! :D

Last but not least, I'll post photos and videos I took. Interesting fact: every time I picked up the camera, Warriors start losing. They either started making stupid mistakes or the T-Wolves start cutting the lead............

that's it! Enjoy, guys!

So i went to today's (11/30/2010) game against Spurs......

I have to say the first quarter was the best quarter, and then the Warriors just crashed......

Manu still had good game, and Tony Parker (now single) and Tim Duncan are just being themselves, so who made the difference? I kinda wanna say Richard Jefferson and DeJuan Blair (they both scored double digits, Blair even had a double-double......to make a comparison he has not scored more than 4 points in the past 4 games), but the real difference is that the Warriors are not communicating with each other. Jefferson got some many points simply from dishing from Parker, and he just went ahead for the ally-oop. This kind of play happened at least 4 or 5 times, and the Warriors had no solution to it.

If that's just it, the score wouldn't look so horrible (118-98). What are other factors?

First, turnovers. Warriors committed 16 TO's which yielded to 20 points. It's actually only 4 points more than San Antonio, but you gotta see it from the real thing instead of the stat chart. Most, if not all, turnovers are just stupid mistakes, and they have been doing that for the past few games. They gotta clean that up if they still want to win. Winning against Timberwolf is not something to be proud of. Timberwolf has allowed the most points (something Golden State used to do) to opponents. Which means everyone can have a chance to score. Spurs, however, are known for the D. Same strategy would not work on them.

Second, and the most important, foul trouble. By saying foul trouble I don't mean players that are limited for playing time due to fouling too much too quickly. What I am saying is that they foul in a bad way. This can actually be seen on the chart. Both teams have 18 personal fouls, but the free throw attempt numbers are just totally different. the FTA almost doubled and the FTM almost tripled. The Warriors really need to avoid stupid fouls like that one before break when Manu clearly cannot make that half-court shot but Rodney Carney or whoever fouled him. This is what I believe the biggest difference.

Overall, an unpleasing game to watch, and the ref's for some reason favored the Spurs. Well, maybe I am the one who's biased, who knows.

Last but not least, some pictures i took!
okay never mind, ill just share a link of video, the title explains all..........

Another sad news? Or should I call it normal?

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4532106

There were injuries after injuries last season, and this may be a sign that it's repeating this year. I'm not saying that this is the only reason why Warriors sucked last season, but it does play some role in it. Now I just hope that this won't affect the rest of the team that much. Oh well, not like they can make playoff this year, so it doesn't really matter. They have a lot to do for the coming season, and the first would be......

FIRE EVERYONE IN THE FRONT OFFICE AND GET CHRIS MULLIN BACK!!!

2009-2010 Western Conference Forecast

Article from EPSN:http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=OffseasonPredictions09-WestStandings

Western Conference is still crazy, just like how it was last year and two years ago.
well....now Golden States is out of picture, i really don't know what to expect in west. and what's with portland? i really think Denver and Dallas should be before Portland. I'm not saying Portland is bad or anything, but I do think Denver and Dallas can be better. Also, I'm pretty sure the 8th seed has to win at least 45 games. I mean, come on, it's almost a western tradition now. I do think Lakers are gonna repeat its championship run, yet it will be hard repeating getting the title. The eastern big threes got some big moves (not saying swapping Ariza and Artest is not big but still) and are likely to stop Lakers. I think, besides GS's games, I'd watch more games of eastern conference.

Hope for Golden States:

1) Anthony Randolph:
seeing him in summer league really gives us a lot of hope, but Don Nelson is known for not giving chance to young players. Therefore, i really hope he will get enough minutes to show what he really has. Again, I know that summer league sometimes doesn't really mean much (look at Marco Belinelli few years ago......), but it really seems like he has something to prove. Golden States' front count is never strong. Counting on Biedrins or Turiaff alone is too big of a risk. If Randlph has something, let him show it. I do wanna see more inside plays. Run-and-gun is fine, but it would work better inside.

2) The back court:
aka Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry. These two are both shoot-before-pass players. If both are gonna start, who's gonna be 1 ? Or if there's really gonna be a 1?
It is true that a team doesn't really need a true point guard, and Warriors don't pass much anyway, but having a good point guard does help (looking back in 2006 and 07 when Baron Davis was still around, at least he passes sometimes......). Now both are not truly point guards, so I don't really know what is going to happen and what the style (what kind of run-and-gun) would the Warriors have this coming season.

3) Stephen Jackson's Future:
Jackson recently announced that he wants to be traded to be a contending team. Knowing that GS is probably not gonna be good for another 2 or 3 years, it is reasonable for a 31-year-old to want to feel more secured. I do hope Jackson can stay on the team, knowing that he can be a nice link between front and back court (he averaged 6.5 assists last season). He, however, does dribble too much sometimes, and I'm not a big fan of his fade-away three's.
All in all, he's a good player and provides good leadership (although he's known for getting technical fouls as well)

4) Don Nelson:
Well, my only hope here is that he can focus on coaching and stop fighting for power against the front office. Do your job Nelly, you are not good for those jobs that require writing or speaking anyway, so just be a coach, and please use your young players. Their growth is important.

5) playoff run:
Work hard Warriors!!! Although you guys' records are not that pleasant in recent years, but we still support you!!!!! Good luck in the coming season!!!!!!!

A little knowledge: in basketball, we usually use numbers to represent your positions
1: point guard
2: shooting guad
3: small forward
4: power forward
5: center
i hope i dont get it wrong......
